The Best Time to Take a Motorcycle Trip in Thailand

The short answer: November to February is the sweet spot for most of Thailand. The cool season brings comfortable temperatures, dry roads, and stunning visibility in the mountains.

But the longer answer is more nuanced — and more interesting.

**November to February (Cool Season)** The best time to ride. Temperatures in Bangkok sit around 25-30°C. In the north around Chiang Mai and Pai, you might need a jacket in the mornings. Visibility is excellent, mountain passes are clear, and the roads are at their best. This is peak season, so book ahead.

**March to May (Hot Season)** Hot. Very hot. Bangkok can hit 40°C. But if you're heading north or into the mountains, it's more manageable. The roads are dry and clear. Just hydrate aggressively, ride early in the morning, and take a long midday break.

**June to October (Rainy Season)** The rains come. In most of Thailand, this means daily afternoon thunderstorms rather than all-day rain. The mornings are often clear and beautiful. The roads can be slippery and mountain passes may be fog-covered. But prices are lower, tourist crowds are gone, and Thailand's landscape is impossibly green.

The Mae Hong Son loop in the rainy season is one of the most spectacular rides you'll ever do — if you're prepared for the conditions.
